The reasons for this result are not mysteries. They are not puzzles wrapped in enigmas, nestled in paradox.
They are not Democracy failing, mysogeny winning, and hate growing.
No. The reasons are very straightforward: we don’t have a grasp on our own electorate, and the things that matter to them.
The Latino Vote Was Wild. And Dems are Losing Us.
Latinos hard workers, care about family, and are hella Catholic (so to speak). We don’t mind rough and malicious jokes because they have thick skin and generally come from far more politically vicious countries than the US. We hugetly care about the immigration issue. We don’t want sugarcoating—we want real solutions. We want immigrants to work as hard we did to find our place in America, not show up, cry “Asylum”, then walk in, with a bunch of services. We are as varied as Anglo-Saxons, and after a few generations in America, no longer really identify as Latinos any more than those with Western European roots identify with their native ethnicity. We’re Americans, dammit. Cut the identity politics and just treat us that way.
Kamala is really pretty and relatively young, but with political glasses on, She Looks Like Joe Biden
Kamala either wouldn’t, or couldn’t, name a single thing she would have done differently from Biden these past 4 years. Pathetic, and missed opportunity to be bold. This is a microcosm of Kamala: when presented with opportunities to shoot for the moon, she talked about how much she loved and valued space travel, but never launched the rocket
“It’s the Economy, Stupid!”
3 of 4 Americans polled as they exited voting booths said they were worse off now than they were 4 years ago. Telling them they actually weren’t was insulting. People know how much money they have, we account every day.
She’s Weird
Her mannerisms are disingenuous and give me the creeps. I liked her SNL clone more than her. Especially that laugh. And how she smiled at the camera for like 30 seconds straight on SNL, just Freaky Deaky, man. The camera needs to love you. It’s hard to love weirdness. And Walz was no eye-party, either.
Annoying, Over-Rated Celebrity Endorsements
Taylor can sing. So can Beyonce and J-Lo.
Let’s also recognize the irony here: Beyonce and J-Lo are as well-known for their big giant asses as they are their songs, and have played up that sexuality, big-time, to get where they are. Now they’re feminists?
Bad Bunny can rap, but the day I take actual advice from him is the day I choose to reduce my IQ. Not happening,
Every single celebrity, every A-lister, even ones from beyond the grave came and voiced their endorsements of Kamala. Thing is, when so many do it, nobody cares anymore. Hollywood elites have had a reputation as Marie Antoinette type figures, and that’s only increased in recent years. I think it’s officially clear, nobody gives a crap about celebrity endorsements, and they create a false aura of ubiquitous appeal. “But what does Ja Rule think?” Who. Fn. Cares.
Black Men Are Over It
A quiet rebellion is taking place that we’re missing. The Black Dad is damn well sick of being dissed, told he’s not present, and scolded. The Black Dad does not want to be represented by bald lesbian black ladies, AOC, and prudish white women. The Black Dad is ready to swing his sh*t, be a damn AMERICAN, taken seriously, seen as an individual, and not shamed into voting for culture issues.
We don’t see him, yet, but we will. He just smacked us in the head.
We Got Out-Campaigned
Kamala, I got the 1980s on the phone: they want their campaign tactics back.
Phone banks? Door knocks?
Call my landline from an unknown number. Knock on my door when I am not expecting you. Then eat the angry silence I respond with.
She Lied About Joe’s Decline for the Wrong Reasons
We all saw Biden’s decline, even with brief glimpses. She saw it every day. But rather than act in time to have a fair run-off that would have given us choices, she waited for it to collapse, too late in the game to do anything other than hand the ball to her.
That’s not Loyalty. It’s Dishonesty.
You got my vote this time, Dems, because despite the above, I do find Trump to be a disgusting representation of America. But don’t count on it next time, and understand why you lost my fellow Latinos this time: it wasn’t Trump, MAGA, fascism, racism, sexism or classism. It was a total miss and misunderstanding of the electorate.
